L-Shaped Tiki Hut Re-Thatch – Natural Palm Thatch (Port St. Lucie)
This project is an L-shaped tiki hut re-thatch designed to refresh a weathered roof and tighten the ridge detail.
The plan is non-rectangular with side lengths of 20′ × 20′ × 12′ × 8′ × 8′ × 8′.
The scope consisted of removing the existing thatch, stripping nails from the wood frame, and hauling away debris.
After prep, new natural palm thatch was installed from the eaves up to the ridge with consistent overlap for clean lines and better drip control.
At the ridge, we secured 4–5″ round crossbars and added horizontal 2×4 pressure-treated bracing to improve wind resistance and support.
The ridge finish uses a cedar-tone roofing paper, with a peel-and-stick membrane on the underside of the ridge assembly for added moisture protection.
The result is a crisp, authentic thatch profile that restores shade and the classic tiki look while extending roof life.
