House-Abutting L-Shaped Tiki Hut (≈20′-2″ × 43′ • ~727 sq ft)
This project is a house-abutting, L-shaped tiki hut that wraps a patio corner to create one continuous outdoor room.
Two hip-roof sections meet in the elbow to keep clean sightlines and smooth rain shed. It’s a large tiki pavilion footprint
(about 727 sq ft) designed for patios that need coverage along two sides of the home.
Structure & Materials
- Beams: 9″ pressure-treated pine
- Rafters: 4–5″ pressure-treated pine
- Purlins: solid 3×4 timbers
- Roof: thatch finish (natural or synthetic per project)
House Interface & Gutter Options
The hut abuts the house (free-standing frame) and is laid out to work with existing rooflines. Where homes have gutters, the
tiki roof can be stepped or offset to clear gutter runs, or detailed with a drip edge/diverter so water flows away from fascia and
doesn’t interrupt gutter performance. Overhangs are sized for splash control while keeping airflow under the thatch.
Why This Layout Has Many Uses
- Large structure coverage: ~700+ sq ft of shade for dining, lounge, or an outdoor kitchen under a tiki hut.
- Corner patios & lanais: The L-shape hugs the house and keeps a clear walkway along both wings.
- Gutter-friendly patio cover: Designed to sit near or over existing gutter systems without blocking flow.
- House-adjacent tiki roof: The free-standing frame provides a “house-attached look” without tying into the home structure.
If you’re planning a large tiki hut, L-shaped tiki roof, or a tiki patio cover over/around gutters, this footprint is a proven
starting point. Final dimensions and clearances are field-verified on site to match your fascia, eave heights, and patio layout.
