Torched Square Post (10″ × 10″) — Optional Varnish Finish
This detail shows a 10×10 pressure-treated pine post that has been torch-finished to bring out the grain and add a warm, tropical look.
After torching and brushing, the post can be left natural or sealed with an optional clear varnish for extra sheen and UV protection.

Why Use a Torched Finish?
- Enhanced grain: Heat gently darkens the soft spring wood and highlights the harder latewood for a dramatic pattern.
- Durable look: When sealed, the surface resists fingerprints and minor scuffs better than raw PT pine.
- Design match: Pairs well with natural thatch, dark hardware, and bar/kitchen millwork.
Typical Spec for this image
- Post size: 10″ × 10″ square, pressure-treated pine (PTP).
- Finish steps: light torch → brush to reveal grain → wipe down → optional stain tint →
clear varnish or exterior polyurethane (matte/satin/gloss) per design intent.
Care & Maintenance
- Rinse dust/salt periodically; avoid harsh cleaners.
- Recoat clear finish as needed (exposure dependent, typically every 1–3 years).
Safety note: Torching should be performed off-structure in a controlled area before installation, away from thatch or vegetation,
with proper PPE and fire precautions. The finish is aesthetic and does not change structural capacity—sizes and connections follow the engineered plans.
